FAQ - Difference between Incremental and Absolute encoders

Modified on Fri, 26 Sep at 11:23 AM

Q: What is the difference between an Incremental and an Absolute encoder?

A:

Incremental encoder generate a series of pulses as the axis rotates, indicating relative movement. The exact position can be determined by counting these pulses from a known reference point.

Omron models:

E6A2-C

E6B2-C

E6C2-C

E6F-C

E6H-C

Absolute encoder provide a unique code for each position, allowing the exact rotational angle to be known immediately without needing a reference or returning to the origin.

Omron models:

E6CP-A

E6C3-A

E6F-A
