Summary/Issue Description
How to wire a handheld reader through the QX-870 reader port.
Possible Reasons to do this: Flexibility and Versatility, Redundancy and Reliability, Ease of Use, Data Integration, Cost-Effectiveness.
Solution
Wire the A connector up to a DB-9 male for simplest wiring to a handheld.

5 -------- 7
2 -------- 9
3 ------- 10
(Note: The back panel picture below is for an Ethernet version QX-870)
Configure the data routing
** Note this will disable command processing on port A.
The scanner will need to be programmed on port B via RS-232 or Ethernet depending on your reader version, or defaulted to factory settings.
Parameters in ESP program
Communication
RS232 A
Symbol Data Output = Disabled
Extended Data = Disabled
Diagnostic Output = Disabled
External Source Processing Mode = Data
External Data Routing = Custom
Destination Port = TCP Port 1 (or 2)
Configure the port settings
Program the Baud Rate, Parity, Stop Bits, and Data Bits to match between the handheld and the QX-870
Recommend changing the 870 to match the handheld reader, but either way will work.
Program the Suffix/Postamble in the handheld to CR only (no LF)
