Summary/Issue Description
This note will offer a few general things to check if the "Print" button in the Calibration screen of the LVS-95XX software is not producing the expected screenshot.
Root Cause
Pressing the "Print" button in the Calibration tab of the LVS-95XX should send a screenshot of the window to the default printer on the PC. Sometimes this does not happen or generates a different output, most commonly opening the "Screen Capture" utility, despite a default printer being correctly set in Windows. Some general solutions to check in regards to this issue are below. If these do not work, contact Technical Support for further assistance.
Solution
The problem is rarely a "bug" in the traditional sense. Instead, the "not working" or "not respecting settings" behavior is often caused by one of two things:
- The New Windows 11 Snipping Tool Setting (Most Likely Cause)
- Conflicts with Third-Party Cloud-Sync or Capture Software
Here is a detailed breakdown of the issues and how to fix them.
1. The Windows 11 Snipping Tool Setting
Windows 11 changed the default behavior of the Print Screen key. There is a setting that, when enabled, forces the Print Screen key (and any combination, including Alt + Print Screen) to open the Snipping Tool instead of its classic function of copying to the clipboard.
This is likely what you are experiencing. The Alt + Print Screen command is being respected, but Windows is intercepting it and sending it to the Snipping Tool's "Window Snip" mode.
How to Fix It:
- Open Settings (press
Windows Key + I). - Go to Accessibility in the left-hand menu.
- Select Keyboard.
- Find the setting "Use the Print screen key to open screen capture".
- Turn this toggle to Off.
Once you do this, Windows will stop intercepting the key. Alt + Print Screen should immediately revert to its classic behavior: capturing the active window to your clipboard.
2. Conflicts with Third-Party Applications
If the fix above doesn't work, the Alt + Print Screen hotkey has almost certainly been hijacked by another program on the system. The most common culprits are:
- OneDrive: By default, OneDrive asks to "automatically save screenshots you capture to OneDrive." If you clicked "Yes" to this, OneDrive takes control of the Print Screen keys.
- Dropbox: Dropbox has an identical feature.
- SnagIt (or other capture tools): Third-party screen capture software like SnagIt often sets itself as the default handler for the Print Screen key.
- Logitech Options+ (or other keyboard software): If you use a Logitech keyboard (or a similar brand with its own software), the software itself may have remapped the Print Screen key to a different function, like "Screen Snip."
How to Fix It:
You must find which application is controlling the hotkey and disable its setting.
- For OneDrive:
- Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon in your taskbar (system tray).
- Go to Settings (the gear icon).
- Select the "Sync and backup" tab.
- Uncheck the box that says "Save screenshots I capture to OneDrive".
- For Dropbox:
- Right-click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar.
- Click your profile picture/initials and go to Preferences....
- Go to the "Backups" tab.
- Uncheck "Share screenshots using Dropbox".
- For Other Software (SnagIt, Logitech Options+, etc.):
- Open the settings for that specific application.
- Look for any "Hotkey" or "Capture" settings.
- Either disable the hotkey or ensure it is not assigned to the Print Screen key. In the case of Logitech Options, you may need to remap the key back to the "Print Screen" function instead of "Screen Snip."
In summary, yes, many users report this "issue," but it's typically a configuration problem caused by either a new Windows 11 default or a third-party application taking precedence.
