Q: Which option card is recommended when needed to communicate over Ethernet with the G9SP Controller?
A: The G9SP controller supports communication through Serial RS-232 protocol and Ethernet, offering flexibility for integration into various systems.
Ethernet Communication Options************
CP1W-CIF41 Ethernet Option Board
The most common Ethernet option card is the CP1W-CIF41. However, it has certain limitations:
•It only supports the Ethernet FINS/UDP protocol.
•Only CP1W-CIF41 Ethernet Option Boards with unit version 2.0 or later are compatible with the G9SP controller. Using an unsupported version will result in an "Unsupported Option Board Error," indicated by the MS indicator flashing red.
•This card is suitable exclusively for PLCs that support Ethernet FINS, such as the CJ and CS series PLCs.
CM-EIP-1 Ethernet/IP Option Card
For Ethernet/IP communications, the recommended option is the CM-EIP-1 card. This card enables communication with the following:
•Rockwell CompactLogix and ControlLogix series
•NX and NJ series controllers
•Ethernet/IP modules in the CJ/CS PLC series
The CM-EIP-1 supports EtherNet/IP Implicit Messaging (Datalink) but does not support Explicit Messaging to the G9SP controller. The card operates as an EtherNet/IP Target (slave) device, while the connected PLC functions as the EtherNet/IP Originator (master). Key considerations include:
•The CM-EIP-1 supports only one connection from an Originator at a time.
•If multiple PLCs need to monitor the G9SP’s status, data must be relayed through a single PLC connected to the G9SP.
