Purpose
This guide is a last resort process to help correct calibration failures with the UID devices. This manual exposure adjustment should only be used if the UID Normalization software fails to calibrate the UID device.
Problem Explanation/Objective
This guide assumes working knowledge of the UID products, Terminal Emulators, and setting up a connection between the two. The instructions in this guide will explain what commands need to be sent to the UID device to check/update the UID device Lighting Type’s Exposure value as needed to obtain a successful calibration. This process is not 100 percent guaranteed to work.
Supported devices
List of devices, hardware, or software that are compatible or relevant to the guide. This ensures that the reader
- UID-CHK003 - UID COMPLIANCE VERIFIER LDP
- UID-DPM002 - UID COMPLIANCE VERIFIER DPM
Requirements
List all prerequisites such as tools, software, hardware, knowledge, or configurations needed to follow the guide.
- Windows PC
- UID Device
- Terminal Emulator ( e.g. PuTTY)
Procedure
Serial Command Info:
Query Command:
- “XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL ?” - This command will query the UID device’s Lighting options and settings for Black Level, Exposure and Gain.
Update Command:
- “XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL [LightingType] [BlackLevel] [Exposure] [Gain]” - The values for LightingType, BlackLevel, Exposure, and Gain will need to be specified as mentioned in the instructions below.
Instructions:
1. Make note of the lighting type that is failing the calibration in the UID checker software. This information is needed to make the Exposure adjustment for that lighting type in the following steps.
2.Set up a serial connection with the UID device. This can be done via an Ethernet Telnet connection or a serial RS-232 COM connection. If connecting via Telnet you will need to connect to the UID device’s IP Address and command port 49095. Or set up a COM port connection from your terminal emulator to the UID device’s RS-232 connection settings.
3. Once a session has been set up and connected. Send the following query command:
- “XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL ?”
4. The return value will be something like the following:
Example
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 90 14c 5782 300
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL D 111 4661 287
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 45Q 105 2076 258
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30T_NS 2 5146 271
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30T_EW 2 5417 272
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30Q 1 2832 261
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30S_N 3 9739 282
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30S_E 3 9800 282
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30S_S 3 9628 282
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 30S_W 2 10668 285
!XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL OK
5. Make note of the query return values for the lighting type that is currently failing in the UID checker software. For example, if my device were failing calibration for the 90-degree lighting type then I would make the follow note.
Use the return values from the query command in your serial connection. Do not use the values in the examples!
Example
Command | LightingType | BlackLevel | Exposure | Gain |
XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL | 90 | 14c | 5782 | 300 |
6. Now send the XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL update command and decrease the 90-degree LightingType’s Exposure value by 200.
Example
“XLIGHTCONTRASTCAL 90 14c 5582 300”
7. Now go back to the UID checker software and try to perform a calibration. If the calibration is successful, you are done. If calibration is not successful, repeat steps 6 and 7.
8. Repeat this process for any other lighting types that may be failing calibration.
Note: The HawkEye Normalization calibration software can no longer be used. It will overwrite the manual adjustments that were made.
