Purpose
This guide explains the cause and solution when the H7CC-AD digital counter does not count despite a voltage input being applied. It is especially relevant when replacing earlier H7CX models with the H7CC series.
Supported Devices
This guidance applies to the following Omron models:
- Example: Replacing an H7CX-A4D with an H7CC-AD.
(Other models affected: H7CX-AD, H7CX-ASD, H7CX-A4SD, H7CX-AD-N, H7CX-A4D-N, H7CX-ASD-N, H7CX-A4SD-N)
Requirements
Before proceeding, ensure the following:
- The device is wired according to the specified (24 VAC / 12-48 VDC).
- You have access to the unit's wiring terminals and can identify the correct PINs.
- You can safely power cycle the device after making wiring changes.
- You can locate and adjust the NPN/PNP input mode.
- Use the specified wires for wiring.
Applicable Wires: AWG 18 to AWG 22, solid or twisted, copper (Wire material: Copper).
Cause
In previous H7CX and H7CX-□-N models (with 12–48 VDC power supply), pins 1 and 6 were internally short-circuited, allowing voltage input detection with only pins 2 and 9 connected.
However, in the H7CC series, pins 1 and 6 are not internally connected, so external shorting is necessary for proper operation with a voltage input.
Procedure
To resolve the issue where the H7CC-AD is not counting:
1. Short-circuit pins 1 and 6 externally.
This replicates the internal connection that existed in earlier H7CX models.
2. Check and set the input mode parameter (IMOD) Input mode:
For voltage input, ensure the IMOD is set to PNP mode.
Note: The factory default setting is NPN.
Refer to the datasheet for the steps to locate the IMOD parameter.
3. Verify connections to the count signal input terminals (pins 2 and 9).
These are typically used for signal input in voltage mode.
Apply changes and test the counting operation.
