TG - Restoring Factory Default Settings on Sentech Cameras with StViewer

Modified on Tue, 30 Sep at 11:40 AM

Purpose

This guide explains how to restore a Sentech camera to its factory default settings using the StViewer software. It also covers how to save these settings as the camera’s default startup configuration.

Problem Explanation/Objective

Over time, camera settings may be modified during testing, calibration, or production use. If the camera begins to behave unexpectedly or needs to be returned to a known good state, it is helpful to restore the factory default settings.

Sentech cameras support both factory defaults and user-defined configurations (UserSets), which can be managed using the StViewer software.

Supported devices

This procedure is applicable to the following camera types:

  • USB3 Vision
  • GigE Vision
  • CoaXPress

Note: USB2.0, USB3.0 (non-Vision), Camera Link, and Opt-C:Link models do not include built-in factory default settings.

For these models, a default configuration must be manually saved prior to making any changes, to allow later restoration.

Requirements

  • A Windows PC with StViewer installed (part of the Sentech SDK)
  • A supported Sentech Vision camera connected to the PC
  • Camera properly installed and recognized by StViewer
  • Image acquisition stopped before performing the procedure

Procedure

1. Load Factory Default Settings

  • Launch StViewer and connect your camera.
  • Ensure image acquisition is stopped (click the Stop icon if running).
  • Go to the Remote Device tab.
  • Navigate to UserSetControl.
  • From the UserSetSelector dropdown, select “Default”.
  • Click the “Execute” button next to UserSetLoad.
→ This will load the camera’s factory default settings.

2. Save the Factory Defaults as UserSet

To preserve the factory default settings for future use:

  • In UserSetSelector, select “UserSet1”.
  • Click “Execute” next to UserSetSave.
→ This saves the current (factory default) settings to UserSet1.

3. Set Default Startup Behavior

To specify which settings the camera uses at power-up:

  • Set UserSetDefault to:
    • “Default” → loads factory settings at startup
    • “UserSet1” → loads saved UserSet1 settings at startup

You can find this setting under UserSetControl in the Remote Device tab.

Notes:

All operations must be performed with image acquisition stopped.

The Default UserSet is read-only and cannot be modified.
