TN - Light Curtain Sensing distance

Modified on Tue, 30 Sep at 4:33 PM

Summary/Issue Description

This document will explain more about the sensing distance of the light curtain and how it works based on the environment.

Root Cause

We often get questions about the actual sensing distance of the light curtains. This is because, on the documentation we have from them, there are two different sensing distances per method (short/long), we'll clarify the information about it.

Solution

The information on datasheets and the ia.omron.com web page can be confusing since it states different sensing distances for the F3SG-SR.

As we can notice for the long range we have 10m and 20m but, also it mentions 15m and 30m, this happens with the short range, where we have 3m and 7m, but mentions 4.5m and 10.5m.

This is because in reality for long range they can get up to 15m and 30m and for short range 4.5m and 10.5m the problem is that this measurement if when the quality of the air is perfect and we know some environments may be to dirty or dusty to achieve the maximum distance but base on this e can't guarantee the maximum distance because we can't guarantee the air quality.
