TG - FH FHV Series - Quick Setup Guide

Modified on Tue, 4 Feb at 3:41 PM

Purpose

This guide provides all the necessary steps to connect an FHV7 smart camera to a PC and configure basic processing units for a vision inspection. For terminology related to the FH/FHV series, refer to page 38 of the FH/FHV Series Vision System User’s Manual (Z365-E1). This manual is an excellent resource for detailed instructions on using and customizing the FZ-Panda programming interface.

Explanation

This guide outlines the steps to connect an FHV7 smart camera to a PC and configure basic processing units for vision inspection tasks.

Supported devices

FH
FHV Smart Cameras

Requirements

•FHV7 smart camera

•I/O cable (plug connector M12 17-pin)

•Ethernet cable (RJ-45 connector, M12 8-pin connector)

•Software FZ-Panda programming interface

Procedure

Connect the power supply

1. Connect the I/O cable to a 24V DC power supply.

•An amperage rating of 5A or more is required when using a lighting module.

•An amperage rating of 1A or more is sufficient when not using a lighting module.

The recommended 5A power supply is the S8VK-G12024.

2. Ensure that AC power is disconnected from the power supply before connecting the I/O cable.

3. The pin layout for the I/O cable can be found on page 6-4-3 of the FHV Series Smart Camera Setup Manual.

4. Connect the brown wire to the positive terminal and the blue wire to the negative terminal on the power supply. The use of ferrule connectors is highly recommended.

5. Connect AC power to the power supply.

6. The power light and link light on the FHV7 unit should illuminate.

Download and Install the FHV Launcher and Simulator

1. A Member Registration Sheet is included with each FHV7 unit. To download the installation files, click here.

2. Review the Download File Agreement and click the blue icon to proceed.

3. Enter the required information and then click Next. For the license number, enter the 19 characters (including dashes) provided on the Member Registration Sheet.

4. Download the latest FH-FHV Launcher and Software. The launcher must be installed first. If a launcher is already installed on the PC, uninstall it before installing the new one. For PC system requirements, refer to section 7-1-1 of the FHV7 Setup Manual.

5. Before closing the FHV7 Download Service page, review the other available downloads. Instruction sheets are provided for the camera, as well as for the lens, lighting, and data modules. Additionally, EDS, GSD, and ESI files can be downloaded.

6. Unzip the downloaded files and install the launcher first, followed by the software.

•Note: The software installation will be named "Simulation Software." This does not mean it is only for the simulator. This software must be installed to connect to the camera (Remote Operation Tool) and for simulation use.

7. Click the Windows Search bar or icon.

8. Scroll down to OMRON, expand the folder, and select FH_FHV License Tool.

9. If prompted, select Yes.

10. Enter the requested information and the license key from the Member Registration Sheet, then click Register. Finally, click Close.

Configure the PC Network Adapter

1. Click the Windows Search bar or icon.

2. Click Settings.

3. Click Network and Internet.

4. Click Change adapter options.

5. Right-click on the PC’s Ethernet adapter and select Properties.

6. Double-click on IPv4 from the list to open the network adapter's TCP/IP settings.

7. The default IP address for an FHV7 is 10.5.6.100. Set the PC’s Ethernet adapter IP address to e.g., 10.5.6.200 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 as shown below. This will place the camera and PC on the same network, allowing for a successful connection.

•Note: Do not set the last octet of the PC adapter IP address to the same value as the camera (e.g., 10.5.6.100). If they are set to the same value, the connection will fail.

8. After entering the IP address and subnet mask, click OK.

Launch the FH/FHV Launcher on the PC

1. Click the Windows Search bar icon.

2. Scroll down to OMRON, expand the folder, and select FH_FHV Launcher.

3. Select the version suitable for the connected FHV from the drop-down list. Click Remote Operation Tool, then click Run. Write down the version (e.g., 6.21 2018/11/27).

4. Click the Browse button. If the connected FHV7 does not appear, click the Refresh button to search again. If the camera still does not display, try disabling the PC’s firewall.

5. Select the camera from the list and then click OK.

6. Ensure that the software version selected earlier from the drop-down list matches the firmware version displayed next to the camera’s IP address. If the PC software does not match the camera's firmware, revisit the FHV7 Download Service and download/install the appropriate software.

7. Steps 8-10 are optional. These steps change the resolution of the image displayed via the remote connection. Higher resolution may result in longer display times, but it does not affect inspection time. This is purely for visualization in the programming environment.

8. Click the Settings gear icon.

9. Set the value to the number of pixels the FHV7 has horizontally. This information can be found on page 12 of the FHV7 Datasheet, or reference the table below. To determine the camera resolution, check the last three digits of the camera's part number located on the side of the unit.

10. Click OK to save the display size changes.

11. Click Start.

12. The Main Window will appear once a successful connection with the FHV7 is established. Setup is now complete.

* If the programming interface does not launch, revisit the Configure the PC Network Adapter section and ensure that both the PC and camera are on the same network.
